For most people wearing a face covering is probably something you’re only having to do whilst popping out to the shops. Here in France we’re required to wear them all day, in the office and out in the street.

This of course can take a toll on your skin and it certainly did mine! Dry, rough skin, severe breakouts and overall discomfort set in pretty quickly once I started wearing my cotton mask all day.

Step one was to pick up a silk mask and it immediately made a difference! My skin was no longer irritate and the texture of this mask was so much more comfortable! Instead of scratching my skin it would glide on my cheeks. I picked mine up from The Big Silk.

  2. Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Essence Treatment – This has been in my routine for years. A water-like liquid that helps prime the skin. Boosts radiance and helps all your products soak in.
  3. Skinceuticals H.A. Intensifier – A corrective serum to help reduce fine lines from dehydration. This is a Hyaluronic Acid product that feeds the skin and feels like it’s doing so much more than just sitting on the surface!
  4. Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Oil – If you buy one thing this is it! Every time I use this products I get compliments on my glowing skin. It’s an antioxidant oil that completely gets right of that tight skin feeling. It really plumps my skin and keeps it hydrated all day long. This is a holy grail!
  5. Sunday Riley ICE Ceramide Moisturizing Cream – This is such a polarising product. A lot of people hate the smell and ultra-thick texture but I LOVE the marzipan scent and my skin just drinks this up. It sits nicely on my skin locking in all the products I used before
  6. Sunday Riley Autocorrect Brightening and Depuffing Eye Contour Cream – This product does what it says on the tin. Hydrating, brightening and lightweight, I love the results and the light-reflecting pigment helps fake a little more rest on groggy mornings.
  7. Sarah Chapman Skin Insurance SPF 30 – Hot DAMN is this SPF amazing. The smell is lush (think exotic holiday) and the tinted formula makes your skin absolutely radiant. Another product that receives a ton of comments when I wear it. The science behind it is also smart. A broad-spectrum SPF that’s bursting with anti-oxidants to fight against free-radical damage

A cold crisp air has swept it’s way through Paris and it’s taking the browning leaves with it. Autumn is finally here and with this new season comes a revamp for my make up bag.

Summer is over so a new foundation is needed to match the tan and I’m moving from coral-pink hues to muted brown and burgundy.

  5. Benefit Cosmetics 24 Hour Brow Gel Does what it says on the tin!
  6. Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick in Bombshell – This is my ultimate nude/pink lipstick. I’ve re-purchased this 3 times now!
  7. Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Brag Mascara – picked up this mascara last month in Istanbul. Love the results but after a few hours the product leaves you with Panda eyes so I won’t be repurchasing…
  8. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Brow Pencil in Dark Brown – Still by far my favourite shade and texture for a brow pencil – repurchased this last month also.
  9. Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise in Chocolate Bronze – The next three products are consistently in my make up bag to achieve a very easy, quick, bronzed smoky eye. If you’re lazy with eye make up but want to mix up your day to day look then invest in these three!

Let me start by saying the shape and size of your body ESPECIALLY over this crazy, scary year is quite literally the least important thing that should be consuming your thoughts. It’s a horrible time for so many people and there is so much more to life than this. I can assure you.

The only reason I’m sharing this is because a) people have asked and b) If like me you are fed up with feeling uncomfortable, bloated lost for ideas then I am hoping this will help you…so if you feel like you need someone to talk to about your journey, need words of motivation or just want to yell at me for what you’ve read then please feel free to let me know on Instagram.

From March to August I went through a number of different eating habits and workout routines and I finally found the combination that worked to get me in to shape. The first few months of lockdown really impacted my mental health and to be honest, working out was one of the few things that brought me joy. So behold my journey:

Over lockdown I spent a pretty penny on Lululemon clothing, particularly the Align pants – most comfortable and versatile workout wear ever!

March – April

TACTIC – eat everything and anything in sights. For month it was nothing but chocolate, cakes, biscuits, dessert with every single carry, cheesy, creamy meal. Tasted good, felt AWFUL. Through all this I was working out in Stuarts gym around 4x per week and following the SWEAT app Fierce routine. More on this to come

RESULTS: 2lbs lost, muscle gain

June – July:

TACTIC Started counting calories, not super low…down to roughly 1600 calories a day. The pounds started to come off but very slowly. I was still drinking, eating everything but smaller portions. Working out in the same way using SWEAT APP and integrated yoga in to my routine every morning for flexibility.

RESULTS: 6lbs lost, muscle gain, a LOT more definition in arms from yoga

July – August:

TACTIC – vacation T-one month. I hit a major plateau so needed to put more effort in. Start by carbs had to go. To be clear, carbs are not bad. I just know how my body reacts to them and I find it easier to digest food and shed fat on a high protein and fat diet. So I ditched the calorie counting and the carbs. Diet made up of salmon, chicken, LOTS of roasted vegetables, Konjac noodles, cauliflower rice and crispy kale. This new diet really worked for me. Still kept alcohol in at the weekends…

RESULTS: 5lbs lost in one month! Muscle gain, fat % loss a LOT more definition in abs. Muscles I’d never seen before came through.

Workout buddy changes everything! Going for outdoor walks and runs with my mum were super motivating to stay on track

WORKOUT RESOURCES USED:


1. SWEAT APP – 100% worth the money. I highly recommend the workouts in this app and there’s something for everyone. For those of you that like cardio, HIIT, lifting. I owe a lot of my success to this app!

2. MYFITNESSPAL – Calorie counting app and the best one I’ve used. Easy to scan what you eat and lets you know macro detail if you want it. I no longer use it as I feel I have a good sense of what I’m eating now but great to kick start

3. ALOMOVES – I subscribed to this app during lockdown to have access to quality yoga videos. After doing a ton of free YouTube ones I felt it was time to upgrade and an upgrade it was. The instructors are great and there’s a mix of yoga, HIIT, toning workout available.

4. APPLE WATCH – Think of a smart watch as your personal trainer. Thanks to my Apple Watch I was forced to workout pretty much everyday as I wanted to close all my activity rings. As well it’s a great support to those of you wanting to start tracking your running efforts!

Average weekly workout routine:

  • 3X strength training
  • 3X cardio training 30 minutes (mix of 5km run or HIIT training)
  • 4X Yoga sessions for recovery or warm up

I usually started my day with a workout or slipped it in to my lunch break to force myself away from my laptop and to break up the 12 hour screen-time days!

All in all I don’t only feel a lot better for changing my lifestyle but my clothes fit so nicely now. They don’t hurt from being too tight (the size up was too loose!). Don’t get me wrong, I know I will yo-yo like always but every healthy day is a step forward and I’m hoping I can have more good days than not in the lead up to Christmas at which point I will go CURAAZAYYYYY. The city of love, a place of wonder, where Hemmingway lay his hat and the morning air is a constant breeze of fluffy bread, buttered pastries and delectable sweet delights. The rumours are true, Paris is a moveable feast.

The close of Summer 2019 saw me packing up my West London life, saying goodbye to my comforts, friends and family and taking on a new adventure with my work in this metropolitan madness.

Having just passed my one year anniversary here I realise I have learned a LOT about the challenges (and rewards) that come with being an expat in a country where you don’t speak the language. There have been many ups some (lock)downs and everything in between.

This may not be the definitive guide to moving to this shimmering city (google search warrants the clickbait)…but I hope it’s a few basic and key points that will help you as I fumbled my way through learning as I went along.

MOVING TO PARIS WHEN YOU DON’T SPEAK FRENCH

The first 3 months are difficult, really difficult. You will struggle to understand basic questions, people will get frustrated with you, you’ll want to give up…but don’t. It’s incredibly important to remain as patient as possible when learning a new language and the good news is, you will get there. Now after spending 8 months (I excluded lockdown in the UK) in Paris I can comfortably say I went from knowing nothing. To confidently and comfortably reserving a table, visiting the pharmacist, going to aesthetician appointments, being at the grocery store and asking for things and more. Even if I don’t understand the full sentence I can now hear key words to react to the question appropriately.

  1. If you can afford to – get lessons. They will help you with the basics to accelerate your integration. Also watch Netflix in French with English subtitles!
  2. Keep goggle translate on your home page – using this helps you learn a little a day when you’re forced to find the translation for something
  3. Don’t surround yourself with other expats! Integrate as much as you can in to French circles
  4. Listen to podcasts like Coffee Break French, buy books like Learn French with Paul Noble – snackable sources of information really helped me pick things up!

If you know me, you know my intense obsession with brows. When asked what my favourite feature is it’s ALWAYS my brows. That is, when I’m having a good brow day. Three months ago I discovered this relatively new beauty treatment via Instagram (don’t judge). Followed by…well over an hour of #browlamination searches I was hooked. This brushed up, fluffy and full brow was everything I’d hoped for and more. Think Gigi Hadid brows. Shortly after, a friend of mine recommended a brow artist she new based in London and it was then that the talented @Thea.Beauty_ entered my life. I won’t look back!!
