Coming soon: Stepping up to the Barre

{One day…}

You should all know that I’m tired of being overweight. My relationship with food is a painful one. We argue all the time – it leaves dirty dishes around, makes me gain weight and physically hurts me sometimes. Now that I actually write this I realize it really does sound like an abusive relationship.

Someone needs to be made accountable…*looks around the room with shifty eyes*. Who me? Ugh.

In the year 2010-2011 I lost a TON of weight taking me from 145lbs to 125lbs of muscle and healthiness – the fittest I’ve ever been. This is while I year back in England away from my man here in Canada. And then I came back.

My intense desire to bake birthday cakes and cupcakes (WHEN IT WAS NOBODY’S BIRTHDAY) over took and we just enjoyed eating and cuddling up on the couch like a sack of potatoes – but it’s so cosy…

I need to be saved and I feel like Barreworks will save me. Not particularly because I suck at working out. I love working out hard. I just need to be surrounded by women who want the same thing. To get healthy. The instructors are trained dancers and you know what that means. Perfect bodies.

Barreworks offers classes that merge fitness training, core conditioning, yoga and pilates into one dynamic class – sounds super hard but I freaking love a class that’ll make me want to puke. Seriously!

After noticing my stunning friend, Smich’s incredibly toned hamstrings one day over lunch (sorry babes, I’m a stalker, I know) I realized I needed to get in on this Barre craze – especially since there’s going to be a new location of the Fitness gym at Yonge and Eglington – RIGHT next to my apartment.

Follow me on my weekly updates as I track my progress through my 4-week barre-bootcamp that starts this Sunday – I’ll do my best to revert to my short but sweet past life as a health nut.

Guess that means no more buffalo chicken wing poutine then…

    I feel like I might have seen you at the Queen Street studio. Is that possible? Anyway, I just found your blog through Paulina on Twitter and wanted to say it’s lovely (your photos are fantastic) and I hope you fall in love with barreworks as much as I have! I’ve never felt as motivated to be fit and healthy as I do since I started their classes last June. It’s amazing to find a workout I don’t have to drag myself to!

      Hi Sarah! You probably did see me there I did a week of classes there! I’m LOVING it so far. Finding it’s not really hurting as much the next day anymore but today I’m trying Drip Barre! Wish me luck 😀 PS thanks for your kind comments on my blog!

    Ohhh that looks so amazing! Is it in the gym inside the Yonge & Eglinton center? I live in that building and it’s pretty much as far as I’m willing to do to work out (I’m lazy!). I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate going to the gym into my life and failed miserably so far!

    Discovered your blog and love it. Hope to see more hair care recommendations (similar hair structure except mind is naturally straight with small waves), foundation shade matches (please include shades you use), and about your barre workout. I tried BarMethod for several months and it definitely is hard and toned me but very difficult to maintain.

    I hope the Barreworks classes work great for you! A friend and I did a ballet class about 2 years ago (omg cringe at that length of time…need to giddy back up!) and it was RIDICULOUSLY HARD. Sweated like a MOFO. But progress was definitely made! I think you’re beautiful, but what matters is how you feel about yourself. Lots of love!
