You may not know the name D’Esclans but you’ll know know the iconic – Whispering Angel Rosé. A staple to our summertime, patio drinking. Even if you’re not wine obsessed this is a trip worth making from the Cote D’Azur.
Owned by wine mogul and game changer in rosé production Sacha Lichine – visiting the vineyards of Chateau D’Esclans was worthy of its own post – . Visit the ground at no cost but be prepared to part with your money in the wine shop itself.
The trip to the fields of Provence from the city of Nice was without a doubt worth it. Our tour guide was bursting with information, walking us through the incredibly modern way of wine making. Hand picked grapes that are then fed through machinery that can identify the best grapes defied by shape, colour, size and condition.
Mechanically processed and pressed, the juice is then aged in stainless steel or oak barrels. On the tour you’ll be walked through the entire process. You’ll get to see the vast vats and barrels as well the as onsite lab they have!
Following the tour of the process we were so excited to see the Chateau itself. A gorgeous estate surrounded by fields of grapes – I so desperately wanted to go in!
Finishing the tour, we ended up in the wine shop picking up a bottle of Garrus – (when in Rome) and enjoyed it in the French Alps later in our trip. Nothing like the mountain breeze, a killer view and the finest bottle of Rosé you’ve ever tried.
