New Year, New Beauty routine: The chocolate smokey eye

My 2014 beauty mantra has been all about experimenting with bold lip colours. This year I ventured in to the world of unusual (for me) shades like deep purples, blackened plums and a shade I once said I would never wear on my lips- reddish browns.

This year will see a lot of changes for me — I’m moving back to England! So excited to be in London again and with that comes an awesome promotion with the company I love and the chance to see my friends again. WHO’S EXCITED?!

With this new found excitement and life change, I’ve been experimenting a bit more about what I consider my “signature beauty look”. Hit ‘read more’ to see which products are helping me get this look!

A collection of luxe products make up a few of my favourites and for the first time ever a shadow palette that I’m crazy about. I know what you’re thinking…what about Naked? Well it just never did for me what it seems to do for everyone else. The new Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate palette is what’s had me wearing eyeshadow on a daily basis.

Yves Saint Laurent – Youth Liberator Foundation Serum

Cle De Peau Concealer in Almond

Hourglass – Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light

Starting with the base my favourite foundation is still YSL’s Youth Liberator. Skincare and cover up in one? What more could you want? I’m going to not talk about the Cle De Peau concealer because I need to ween myself off of what is the best (and most expensive) I’ve ever had. Beauty addict problems for real! Hourglass’ Ambient Lighting Powders are the only pressed powders that’ll set my look without a chalky finish.

Nars – Satin Lip Pencil in Biscayne Park

Dior – Diorskin Nude Tan Healthy Glow Powder

Chanel – Joues Contraste in Caresse

The nude that converted me from my bold-lip love was Nars’ Biscayne Park and this little number is whittling down fast. Along with Maybelline’s Daringly Nude these two shades are the ones I reach for when wearing this look. Finished with Chanel’s new blush in Caresse for a warm apricot glow.

For this look I used three shades from the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Palette. A base of the beige Butter Pecan with Frosting and Truffled in the crease.

This is the complete look for the daytime…I love that it’s clean and feminine.

This is the same family of colour but with a tightline and waterline of black liner smudged out. I think I’ll keep a liner in my bag on hand for drinks after work. Sasses it all up quite quickly don’tchya think?

What changes to your beauty routine are you making for next year?

Love how you showed a day and night version! Sassed up indeed! Brown eyeshadow has been my BFF since the mid-90s. It just works in every situation and never causes me any stress! This is a gorgeous look on you, and I’m excited that a palette has finally lit up your life, lol!
Wow! I am happy that you’re getting to go back to England and start the new year with a new opportunity and old friends. Even though we never met IRL, I felt a tug of “boo…” when I saw your Instagram post announcing that you were back in London! I’m sure there’s a lot of sad Canadians who will miss you dearly!
Much love to you, Rema! <3
