2014 beauty favourites

Really, truly, honestly. I couldn’t possibly try to write up all the beauty products that were my favourite this year, especially when it comes to skincare. SO I’ll make an effort to film a video (!) on my favourites before the quarter ends.

In the mean time click to “read more” and check out the slide show of the products I’ve loved all year round.

chocoalte eyes beauty look too faced

My 2014 beauty mantra has been all about experimenting with bold lip colours. This year I ventured in to the world of unusual (for me) shades like deep purples, blackened plums and a shade I once said I would never wear on my lips- reddish browns.

This year will see a lot of changes for me — I’m moving back to England! So excited to be in London again and with that comes an awesome promotion with the company I love and the chance to see my friends again. WHO’S EXCITED?!

With this new found excitement and life change, I’ve been experimenting a bit more about what I consider my “signature beauty look”. Hit ‘read more’ to see which products are helping me get this look!

baked blushes

{The baked blushes}

I can’t quite remember when it first happened but I’m pretty sure my first baked blush experience stemmed from a  session circled around Bourjois in Superdrug. Are you ready to have your mind blown? The Parisian brand has been baking blush since 1863.

151 years later and the market is swelling with this incredibly flattering formula of cheek colour. A baked blush offers a sweep of colour with depth and dimension, without the use of shimmer. Yes, it’s the dream for women of all ages! Below is a fine roster of baked offerings that having made the cut as my top six products.

clinique cheek pop

{Clinique Cheek Pop}

How can you not adore this packaging? A beautiful blush set in a daisy mould. The epitome of spring. These new blushes by Clinique glide over the skin like silk. You can really feel the liquid basis of this powder in the way it slides.  This shade, Berry Pop is the perfect colour for any season.

Teamed with Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in Audacious.

hourglass blush

{Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta}

I mean…When I heard this was being released I may have squealed, jumped for joy, harassed google for all info imaginable and created my wishlist of shades in order of priority.

As modelled above, this blush provides a fever-like flush that looks so natural, so radiant and so smooth. Unlike the Clinique blush this product really is a true powder but it’s feels micro-fine (like it’s face powder counterpart), making it effortless to apply.

marc jacobs blush

{Marc Jacobs Shameless blush in Tantalizing}

I picked this blush up from Sephora a few months ago in my search for a warm, radiant plum shade. This is all that and more. Like Clinique’s offering, this baked blush is oh so silky in it’s application.

Can you handle these shades? Married with Revlon’s Colorburst Matte Balm in Standout. Can you tell I love that formula? More on that later…

chanel blush

{Chanel Joues Contraste in Accent}

Other standout blushes include Chanel’s stunning  Joues Contraste in Accent – caramel toned, rose blush. I believe this shade was part of the Holiday 2013 collection so it may not be available now but they do have a a pretty healthy range of baked blush shades to chose from…

too faced

{Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush}

Shown here in Peach Beach and There’s Something About Berry this duo are intensely shimmer-packed but remind me of the perfect summer glow. I’ll be sweeping layers of this over my tan for sure. Oh, did I mention it’s a healthy 5.5g of product for $38?

blush brush mufe

{The applicator}

To apply my baked blushes with ease I’ve really been enjoying Make Up For Ever’s #156 – Large Flat Blush Brush. It’s loosely packed and distributes the product evenly with no harsh streaks.

Tarte of Giving Holiday set 2013_

Tarte of Giving Holiday set 2013_

{Tarte – The Tarte of Giving}

Christmas is upon us. Yes, I know it’s actually three days away but believe it or not I still haven’t started my gift shopping

In light of my failure to stay on top of this year’s special occasion I’ll be spending the next two days raiding the malls and getting my hands on everything I can for the wonderful people in my life. Beauty wise, Sephora is brimming with the most stunning sets I’ve seen in a long while. We don’t have time to wait for shipping so it’s not the biggest problem if these sets are sold out online. Head to the stores and check out my top picks for gifting below. If you’re anything like me you’ll be spending the next few days like a headless chicken. I hope my gift guide for the beauty addicts in your life makes things a little easier 😉

Tarte’s The Tarte of Giving set is fantastic for the busy-girl in your life who tends to travel a lot. Stock her up with this gorgeous beauty case (with a shower hook!) that’s filled with a variety of glosses, full 20 piece eye shadow palette and skin-care and make up mini’s to have her set for a while. $71…I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the bargain price.

{Stila Artist’s Essential Set}

If you know a girl that refuses to leave her house without a full shadow look then Stila have you covered. The Artist’s Palette is loaded with four quads that offer a variety of shades to mix and match for a myriad of looks just waiting to be created.

I love that it comes with a liner, brush, lip stain and blush to complete of the intricate eye looks your girl’s created. Another $71 set that is totally worth it’s weight in gold.

Make Up for Ever Aqua Rouge

{Make Up For Ever – Ultimate Long Lasting Lip Set}

I have long since been a fan of Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Rouge lip colours (an opaque lip of colour that still allows for long make out sessions) this set is for the girl that goes bold before she goes home.

Six full size lip stains with double ended gloss and the matching lip liner to keep your pout in place. If she has a couple of these it’s worth gifting the set to allow her to play with more long-lasting colour. $168 is pricey so I would reserve this extra-special set for you BFF or sister.

{Tarte – Off The Cuff Amazonian Clay Blush Palette}

Hands down this is my favourite release of the 2013 gift sets. It’s simple I know but the size of the blushes is fantastical. The palette itself is stunning to look at and it’s the perfect collection of shades for any skin tone. 4.5grams of five different shades of blush inclusive of the perfect, matte bronzer. I just want to keep this set in my life forever.

$50 for the palette, the blushes are $31 individually. Enough said.

Shades featured: Dollface, Park Avenue Princess, Darling, Dazzled, and Crave.

{Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette}

If you know a make up addict that hasn’t got this in her arsenal then you can save yourself the searching time and pick up this pretty. There aren’t many setting powders that compare to this line and the fact that there are three variations in one set makes it a MU dream. Featuring Dim Light, Incandescent Light (exclusive) and Radiant Light it offers a variety of finishes for any make up look. I love using the middle shade to set my under-eye concealer and keep it bright but not cakey. Bonus? You get a 5ml  Veil Mineral Primer with the palette. $58 for the palette where the full size individuals are $52.
