perfume reviews floral fragrance best gift, marc jacobs, maison martin margiela, replica, flower market, red roses, jo mane, flower, kenzo, flower in the air

In years gone by a floral focused scent was rarely my poison of choice. I preferred my floral notes laced with pink pepper and sitting comfortably under a fruiter note to make the perfect powdery elixir.

That being said! The recent Chelsea Flower Show in London inspired me to pull out my collectibles of flower focused fragrances…

{Beauty  buys}

Since I’ve been back in the UK I’ve spent an obscene amount of ££ on beauty products. I know, I know. What’s new? Being back home means easy access to wonderfully British brands – two of which are featured in today’s post.

Beauty Blogger Candle Collection

Beauty Blogger Candle Collection

My Instagram is a pretty accurate representation of the things I love most on a daily basis. Take food, beauty, candles and family and friends, and you pretty much have all my interests in one channel.

Over the last few months I’ve developed a bit of a collection and out of my ever growing set up you must know that only three of them were press samples two gifts and the rest bought. Yep, I spend a little too much on luxury candles but It’s my weakness.

There’s nothing I love more than chilling at home with a good movie, a cup of tea in hand and a delectably scented candle setting the mood. Here are my favourites a few lines about why they’re oh so worth it.

 Laura Mercier Warm Roasted Chestnuts

{Laura Mercier – Warm Roasted Chestnuts Signature Candle}

This Candle was gifted to me by one of my girlfriends and I couldn’t help but squeal when I saw it. I’ve had my eye on this beauty for a while now and the scent was the perfect blend of Roasted chestnuts, nutmeg, spicy berry, clove and warm vanilla sugar cream to emulate the warmth of winter.

Diptyque Hazelnut Candle

{Diptyque Noisetier ‘Hazelnut’ Candle}

I love hazelnut anything. syrup, body lotions, gelato. It’s one of my favourite flavours in the food and fragrance world and when I saw this online a few months ago I hurried to Holts to grab one. Sadly it wasn’t there but you can imagine my excitement when I recently popped in to see it sitting on the shelves.

Diptyque has long been one of my favourite go-to’s for luxury candles and I had high hopes for this. The throw wasn’t as strong as previous candles I’ve owned be but it’s still my favourite to burn when I’m working on the blog.

Rodial

{Rodial Mary Katrantzou Candle}

Housed in Mary’s famous ‘Babelle‘ print, this is one of my favourite’s (next to Fresh Life) when it comes to washroom ‘clean’ scents. I’d also burn it during the day for a lighter touch but for some, the mix of orange and lemon sitting atop a fruity and floral pineapple and orange blossom may be a little too citrusy if it’s warmth and comfort that you want from a candle.

{Givenchy Dahlia Noir Candle}

The Givenchy team gifted this candle to me for my Birthday of this year and I was in candlelight heaven whenever I’d burn this. Even my boyfriend loved it! Reminiscent of the EDP (not the EDT shown in the photo, though I do prefer the latter as my fragrance), the candle omits a robust concoction of woody and floral notes to create a room filled with luxury.

This candle is so strong that even when it’s unlit it still smells incredible enough to notice when you walk past it.

Fresh Life Candle and Fragrance

{Fresh – Fresh Life Candle}

The Fresh Life fragrance reminds me of what a clean, country home would smell like in the midst of spring. A infusion of citrusy and ‘fresh’ notes, the candle and fragrance feel identical in their blend and I love this one for the washroom or my desk.

Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin Candle

{Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin Candle}

I keep Jo Malone close to my heart but try to stay away as the price tag is hefty. Lime Basil and Mandarin burns strong in my kitchen (perfect setting) while I’m cooking and I love that the throw on this votive is so huge for such a little guy.

library of flowers candle linden

{Library of Flowers – Linden}

Library of FLowers – Linden was candle that surprised and impressed me the most. Housed in a tiny glass jar with a rose gold, tin lid, it was a no brainer when I saw the remarkably awesome price at $15 for this gorgeous scent.

I wasn’t sure how to describe it when I smelled it but it’s just so worth every penny and believe me when I say the scent fills up every inch of my living room. If you’re going to experiment with candles for the first time then DEFINITELY get this one.

 lolia relax candle

{Lollia – Relax}

This Lollia candle (aside from it’s obvious good looks) won my heart at first sniff. It sits comfortably in my bedroom and I love that the wick offers a cute charm to hang off the jar once you snip it.

lollia relax candle

{Relax Candle}

The scent is a therapeutic and feminine blend of XXXX that is hard not to love ‘Relax‘, whatever your taste. I’ve only burnt it a couple of times and find that the throw isn’t the greatest but I’m hoping after I break it in a little more it’ll burn stronger.

Diptyque Pine Candle Christmas 2013

{Diptyque Pine Bark Holiday Candle}

The Christmas candle, without a doubt. Sitting by my apartment entrance it allows guests to smell the woody and smoky accents of pine trees and see the lit Christmas tree the moment they step in. It’s the city girl’s cheat to a real tree 😉

Diptyque Candle Nordstrom

{Diptyque Set of 10 votive Candles at Nordstrom}

This year I thought it apt to treat myself to a collection of Diptyque candles to allow me to experience more outside my usual comfort zone. A great price of XX for 10 votives and the chance to experience more than one scent without spending a fortune.

Something to note, the smallest size available for sale individually at Holts is $36 so this is a great way to sample before you buy.

My old favourites still stand strong: Figuier and Baies

New favourites have been added to the roster: Feu De Bois, Roses, Ambre, Patchouli

I loathe: Tubereuse and Cannelle (Cinnamon).

Luxurious fragrant loves

{Scented soufflé with a solid perfume}

There are some things that you’ve always wanted to purchase yourself but just couldn’t justify it when you had the real world calling. Jo Malone and Diptyque are what I consider expensive products but my goodness are they decadent. Forever on my wish list I was spoilt this Christmas just gone. A beautiful coworker overwhelmed me with her triple, a-star secret Santa gift by treating me to a Diptyque closet fragrance. The Bais scent has alway been one of my favourite and ill shameless admit to open my closet just to smell it from time to time. Needless to say its convinced me that a candle in the same sent is more than justified. The fragrance translates to ‘Berries’ but its not the sweet and fruity scent that you may imagine. It emulates a fresh, clean smell of roses and blackcurrent and is shown to be a smell that is pleasing to both men and women. My boyfriend loves it just as much as I do.

{Jo Malone and Diptyque}

My beautiful sister went through airport hell and high-water to get this luxurious body cream to me when she visited for the Holidays. It’s such a delicious and soft product that I can barely bring myself to use it. The rich body creme feels like whipped silk on the skin and is so sweetly fragranced you’ll too, be sniffing your arm every few minutes. You just can’t help it. British brand, Jo Malone was established in 1994 and specialises in bespoke fragrances. Their latest addition to the fragrance collection is the Earl Grey and Cucumber. You have to smell it once and you’ll be hooked.
My scent of choice is the Nectarine Blossom and Honey. A gentle mix of peach, nectarine and acacia honey scents the skin for hours but I still can’t get enough. Sooner or later I’ll purchase the fragrance too.
